POKÉSURVIVOR / FIRST-RUN GUIDE

Pokémon Survivor:
pick a partner.
Plan your moves.

PokéSurvivor is a free browser survival game: you move one Pokémon, avoid the horde and choose upgrades as you level up. Start with an attack you can use comfortably, then check what it needs to evolve.

01 / YOUR FIRST PARTNER

Choose the attack you want to start with

The starting roster has 29 partners. These six examples cover its six default starting attacks, so you can compare how a run begins without treating a stat total as a tier list. The personality test can suggest a partner; you can reject that suggestion and choose another.

For a first attempt, try Squirtle for a piercing shot or Piplup for a slowing burst. That is a recommendation based on the moves’ behavior, not a measured win-rate ranking. If you keep getting caught at close range, change your positioning before assuming you need a rarer Pokémon.

Squirtle
Piercing projectile

Squirtle

Water Gun / Water move

Try this if you want to keep your distance. Line enemies up behind you so a piercing shot can meet a group.

Water GunScaldLevel 5 + Power
Charmander
Targeted projectile

Charmander

Ember / Fire move

A straightforward projectile option. Watch where the shot goes while you concentrate on finding space to move.

EmberFire BlastLevel 5 + Power
Piplup
Slowing burst

Piplup

Bubble / Water move

Try this if crowds keep reaching you. Bubble slows enemies it hits; use that opening to move out before they surround you.

BubbleSurfLevel 5 + Sprint
Treecko
Returning projectile

Treecko

Razor Leaf / Grass move

The leaves travel out and back. Reposition with their return path in mind instead of running directly into the crowd.

Razor LeafLeaf StormLevel 5 + Reflexes
Bulbasaur
Wide melee arc

Bulbasaur

Vine Whip / Grass move

Pick this if you prefer working around the edge of a group. Its sweeping attack rewards watching your distance from enemies.

Vine WhipPower WhipLevel 5 + Power
Psyduck

Psyduck

Confusion / Psychic move

Its default attack is Psychic even though Psyduck is a Water Pokémon. Judge the move you are firing, not just your partner’s type.

ConfusionPsyshockLevel 5 + Reflexes

These are default starting moves. A purchased starting-move upgrade can change a partner’s opening attack. Developer’s starter assignments · Move behavior and evolution requirements

02 / LOOK UP YOUR NEXT UPGRADE

Find your move’s evolution

Raise the move to level 5, obtain the matching upgrade card, then look for its golden evolution card. The table lists 103 moves from the current official guide: 97 have an evolution and six buff moves do not. Search by the move you have, the evolution you want, a type or an upgrade such as Power.

Example: EmberEmber level 5Power upgradeFire Blast evolution card

A match in this table tells you the evolution requirement. It does not mean every Pokémon can learn that move, or that a particular card will appear on your next level-up. Choose from the moves offered in your run.

03 / MAKE ROOM TO MOVE

A plan for your first run

  1. Learn movement before chasing pickups. On desktop, use WASD or the arrow keys. On mobile, turn to landscape and drag to move. Attacks fire automatically; leave yourself a route out of a crowd.
  2. Learn one attack’s reach. Watch whether your starting move pierces, sweeps or slows. Pick a main attack to upgrade rather than expecting four low-level moves to solve every encounter.
  3. Move around the group. The developer recommends wide circles. Ground markers warn of incoming attacks; move out before they resolve. Do not stay in a dangerous spot just to collect experience.
  4. Notice what keeps the horde alive. Some enemies heal or shield their allies. Deal with those when you have a safe approach, instead of repeatedly attacking a protected crowd.
  5. Check your evolution requirement. Use the table before your next card choice. A maxed move alone is not enough; you also need the matching upgrade. Switch your active move with 1–4 or Q/E when a different attack suits the enemies ahead.

The movement and target-priority advice comes from the developer’s guide. The step order is our suggested learning sequence, not a tested clear-time build. A player’s difficulty report describes early crowding and shielded enemies; difficulty and balance can change with updates.

04 / DIFFERENT GAME, DIFFERENT NUMBERS

Use PokéSurvivor’s type rules

Knowing the usual type relationships helps, but the damage numbers are different here. The game softens both strengths and weaknesses because you control one partner and cannot swap Pokémon during the run.

×1.6Super effective
×0.6Resisted
×0.3Main-series immunity
×2.4Dual-type damage cap

For two defending types, multiply the two matchups and apply the cap. For example, Fire into Grass/Steel reaches the ×2.4 cap, rather than the main-series ×4. Normal into a pure Ghost target deals ×0.3 rather than zero. Weather can also favor or weaken types, so read the current weather before relying on one attack.

Use the official PokéSurvivor type chart and weather notes for this game. Our main-series type calculator is for the main Pokémon games; its multipliers do not apply to PokéSurvivor.

Common questions

Where can I play Pokémon Survivor?

Play JPTER78’s PokéSurvivor at pokesurvivor.com in a browser. It is a free fan game, and no download is needed for the online version. The developer also lists it on itch.io. Source

Why do enemies overwhelm me so quickly?

Keep an escape route open and move before a crowd closes around you. The developer recommends wide circles, avoiding marked attacks, and prioritizing enemies that heal or shield others. A player reported fast difficulty growth on itch.io; that report is a reason to plan positioning, not proof that one build always wins. Source

Why has my move not evolved?

Check both requirements: the move must reach level 5 and you must have its matching upgrade card. Then look for the golden evolution card. Search the table for the exact move; six listed buff moves have no evolution. Source

Can I use a normal Pokémon team builder for this game?

Use this guide’s game-specific rules instead. PokéSurvivor revolves around one partner and active moves. Its type multipliers differ from the main series, so a six-Pokémon team analysis does not predict survival or damage here. Source

Can I play with friends or on my phone?

Yes. The online game supports co-op for up to four players. On a phone, use landscape orientation, drag to move and tap a move to select it. The developer’s offline download is solo only. Source

Keep the move list close

Open the game in a separate tab, then return here when you need an evolution requirement.
